The Hidden Cost of Disposing of Liquids

Ludden & Mennekes L20 portable compactor

Did you know that disposing of liquid waste can be an expensive drain on your businessโ€™ resources? If 1,000 litres of liquid, impregnating old food waste, weighs 1 tonne, the typical disposal cost through a portable waste compactor is around ยฃ150 per tonne.

Although Compact & Bale offer fully seam-welded, sealed, and self-cleaning wet food waste compactors designed to handle liquids without damage, the real issue lies in the cost; you still pay a premium for every tonne of liquid waste they contain.

The L20 portable compactor lifted by a crane.

An international food producer near Heathrow recently made a smart investment in five new Ludden & Mennekes L20 portable compactors. These units feature raised charge boxes, fully perforated floors, drain-off channels, and 2-inch taps to efficiently separate liquids from solid waste.

By implementing this system, for every 12.5 tonnes of waste processed, they extract 2,000 litres (2 tonnes) of liquid, which is treated in our client’s on-site effluent plant.

With an average of 40 tonnes of waste generated daily, this results in a daily saving of:
6.4 tonnes x ยฃ150 = ยฃ960 per day

At this rate, the savings alone will cover the cost of all five compactors in less than four months.
